Preschool-ABA: An Erasmus+ Project to Improve Preschool Education

Preschool-ABA: An Erasmus+ Project to Improve Preschool Education

Welcome to the Preschool-ABA website! We are thrilled to embark on a transformative journey aimed at enhancing the skills of teachers in delivering Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)-based interventions to improve learning experiences among preschool children. Our focus is primarily on children with autism, but the principles of ABA can benefit a broad spectrum of children, both marginalised and non-marginalised, ultimately enriching the overall quality of education.

The Power of ABA in Education

Applied Behaviour Analysis is more than a set of techniques; it’s a philosophy that views behaviour as learned and modifiable. By breaking down complex skills into manageable tasks, ABA provides a systematic approach to teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours, whilst minimising the risk of harmful behaviours. This methodology is not only applicable to children with autism but has the potential to revolutionize the teaching methods for a diverse range of children, fostering a more inclusive and supportive educational environment. By implementing early ABA-based interventions, the project aims to improve the long-term quality of life for children with autism and their parents and carers.

Unveiling the Vision

In the heart of our mission lies the earnest desire to create inclusive learning environments that cater to the unique needs of every child. With a spotlight on preschool education, we recognise the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the foundation of a child’s development. The materials we create will provide a platform for educators to delve into the world of ABA, an evidence-based approach that has proven to be particularly effective in reducing harmful behaviours among children on the autism spectrum. Materials will include a comprehensive guide on the use of ABA in the classroom and a digital game that enables teachers to apply the knowledge from the guide to practical classroom scenarios.

Our Objectives

  • Teacher Empowerment: Equip educators with the knowledge and tools needed to confidently implement ABA strategies in their classrooms.
  • Inclusive Education: Promote inclusive practices that benefit all children, irrespective of their abilities or backgrounds.
  • Reducing stress and burnout: Help teachers to fill less stressed by improving their ability ot effectively manage student behaviour.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay at the forefront of ABA research and adapt interventions to best suit the evolving needs of preschool education.

The Journey Ahead

Over the coming months, we will focus particularly on the creation of the handbook on ABA principles and practices. The surveys we distributed among teachers gave us a unique insight into the wants and needs of teachers with autistic students in their classrooms, and we are looking forward to the creation of our first output!
